As the Access Group for the Southampton area our aim is to improve access to facilities for all the residents and visitors to the city, in particular for those people with disabilities and to enable them to be fully involved in the life of their community whether it is through employment, leisure or public transport

We aim to achieve this by working with the local authority as well as new and existing service providers to achieve improved levels of access. We do this through positive consultation based around the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) (part 3) which came into force on 1st October 2004

We also now have a residents and visitors Access Guide via the links on this website that includes all of Southampton City Council's public services, Southampton city centre shops and local transport interchanges. The Access Guide is an ongoing project and more shops and services are continually being added. It is hoped that in the future the guide will also be available in free hard copies for all the residents and visitors of Southampton
